Divinity in Our Midst
On the warm Saturday afternoon of April 4, 2026, Chinmaya Jyoti was ablaze in a vibrant tapestry of yellows and blues — as though Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa himself had arrived in his beloved colors to make his presence felt. A beautifully decorated booth with plantain saplings and flower festoons welcomed visitors, many stepping into the āśrama for the very first time. The familiar orange arch bearing ‘CM Amrit Mahotsav 75 / CMSD 25’ and a vibrant new blue banner celebrating the Gītā set the stage for an evening to remember.
As Pujya Swami Siddhananda arrived, he was greeted by Chinmaya Swaranjali’s rendition of ‘āo Gurudev, darśan dījo’ accompanied by CMSD Youth Band (Chinmaya Ḍinḍima) — and in a moment of pure spontaneity, Swamiji stepped right into the midst of the singers for a group picture he himself insisted upon! That warmth and ebullience set the tone for the entire memorable weekend.
Seeing the Divine in the Gītā
The program commenced with Lakshmi aunty invoking the grace of Pujya Gurudev, Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda, and Pujya Swami Swaroopananda. She reminded the gathering of Swami Siddhananda’s presence during the very first discussions, over 25 years ago, to establish a center in San Diego — his blessings woven into the fabric of CMSD from its very inception. Sukumar uncle then introduced Swamiji, honoring his 50+ years of devoted service to Gurudev and the
Mission — and it was later discovered with much delight that this very day marked exactly 51 years since Swamiji’s dīkṣā!
Middle school students presented Pujya Guruji’s song ‘Cinmayamahimā’ with narration, while Chinmaya Swaranjali’s soulful rendition of ‘Jāne kyā jādu bharā hua Bhagavān tumhāri Gītā mein’ became the golden thread woven through the entire evening.
The highlight that followed was nothing short of breathtaking — the grand entry of Lord Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna, revealed in full costume upon a gleaming golden chariot, as though emerging from Sañjaya’s own vision. The sacred dialogue between the divine charioteer and the archer was beautifully recreated, culminating in Arjuna’s surrender and readiness to receive the Gītā’s eternal guidance.
Then came the centerpiece of the evening — the Samaṣṭi Gītā Chanting. A Gītā choir of 75+ children and adults recited Chapter 15 — three times — in unison, under Gurudev’s lifelike portrait and a majestic 50-foot banner bearing the Gītā Sugītā Kartavya verse from the Bhagavad Gītā Māhātmyam. On stage, Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa (Aditi Hariharan, BV Grade 12) led the recitation with eyes lifted skyward, while Arjuna (Isha Popat, BV Grade 12) listened with rapt devotion. As the evening sun streamed into the atrium, the entire space reverberated with the Gitopadeśa.
The chanting concluded with the Gītā Pañcāmṛta — five luminous verses curated by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda and Pujya Swami Swaroopananda to distill the very essence of the Gītā.
Seeing the Divine in Joy and Inquiry
What followed was ‘Gītā Vihār’ — a spirited Kahoot-style quiz on the Gītā, conducted by sevaks Radhachandran and Rajasekar. As Radhachandran humorously paraphrased Gurudev, the quiz was designed to reveal ‘how much of the Gītā has gone through you’ — and it was thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike.
High schoolers hosted thoughtfully curated booths with 3D displays illustrating key verses on sense control (2:58) and the Ladder of Fall (2:62-63), alongside paintings and interactive sessions on select verses from Chapters 3, 4, 5, 9, 17 and 18 conducted by Bala Vihar sevaks and sevikās for ‘Gītā Vicār’.
Chinmaya Vani featured various books on Bhagavad Gītā.
Swamiji then addressed the gathering, warmly commending the excellence of the program and sharing a song he had composed specially for the occasion. After ārati, the evening drew to a close with prasādam lovingly prepared and served by a devoted team of sevaks and sevikās.
A Milestone, A Mission
Chinmaya Mission San Diego’s Samaṣṭi Gītā Chanting to mark the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav was, in every sense, a celebration of Pujya Gurudev’s tireless legacy of spreading the Gītā across the globe. That this gathering took place at Chinmaya Jyoti — the very land where Pujya Gurudev attained Mahāsamādhi — made it all the more sacred and profound.
Swamiji addressed Bala Vihar children and adults in a combined session on Sunday morning (April 5, 2026) with stories and anecdotes ending with the message of Gītā Pañcāmṛta. The evening bhajan sandhya was a perfect finale for the joyous weekend celebration.
A milestone marks the glory of the journey thus far, and kindles the flame for the mission that lies ahead!
