The Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav is a celebration of the enduring legacy of the Sage, the Visionary, the Master Swami Chinmayananda —a collective expression of gratitude and a revival of the joy and purpose his vision continues to inspire.

It is a collective invocation, a luminous uprising of gratitude, a joyous revival of purpose, a glorious festival of Consciousness and a celebration of bliss that knows no bounds.

Chinmaya devotees are uniting worldwide – through signature festivals, spiritual initiatives, cultural offerings, Centre-led events, and global online offerings.

In the light of the Guru, the darkness fades; in the grace of the Gita, the soul awakens. The Chinmaya Movement is not just a legacy, but a living flame that continues to illuminate our hearts and guide us on the path of eternal bliss.

Chinmaya Mission West – Journey

Swami Chinmayananda’s teachings bridged traditional Vedantic wisdom with modern life, making them accessible to diaspora communities and Western seekers.

The mission plays a vital role in preserving Hindu culture and values among Indian immigrants in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean Islands. At the same time the mission provides a strong Sanatana Dharma foundation for the future generations in the West, making it easy to connect to their deep roots.

1965

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda’s first visit to West

1975

Birth of Chinmaya Mission West in November at Piercy, CA.

1980s

Chinmaya Mission West grows from Strength to Strength. Centers open in Houston, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Washington D.C., Chicago. Study groups, CHYK youth programs, and Vedanta camps begin across the U.S.

1990s

Chinmaya Mission West continues to grow and expand. The last center to be inaugurated by Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda was Chinmaya Kedar, in Pennsylvania. The final spiritual camp conducted by Gurudev was in the Washington DC from July 19 – 25th,

1993

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananada attains Mahasamadhi on Aug 3rd, 1993 at San Diego, CA. Leadership passes to Swami Tejomayananda, who strengthens global organizational structure. CMW becomes a structured network of over 25+ centers.

2000s

These years brought in a digital era for CMW with digital media outreach increasing among its several newly established centers. CORD USA was established by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda in 2009. CORD USA would be awarded the Top-Rated Non-Profit by GreatNonprofits for several years in a row.

2014

Chinmaya Mangalam Spiritual Retreat Site was inaugurated, spanning 143 acres.

2015

Chinmaya Birth Centenary was celebrated around the world. Chinmaya Jyoti Yatra happened between all centers around the world.

2016

Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda was awarded Padma Bhushan by Government of India.

2017

Pujya Swami Swaroopananda takes over as the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission.

2020s

CMW continues to grow, adding more centers, expanding its reach to thousands of people from all segments of society through innovative programs. Several digital initiatives have been taken up by CMW, including e-Bala Vihar, online Gita study groups, and expanded youth programs. The Chinmaya University and Chinmaya International Foundation continue to provide tools for blending of Indian Knowledge Systems with modern education.

Impact of Chinmaya Mission in the West

In keeping with the vision of Pujya Gurudev which has been the founding principle for Chinmaya Mission, the 50+ centers of CMW across North America and the Caribbean Islands conduct several impactful programs across all age groups. Hanuman Chalisa Havan

Hanuman Chalisa Havans are sacred yajnas in which the Hanuman Chalisa is chanted to invoke Shri Hanuman’s blessings for strength, courage and selfless service.
Through the power of collective chanting and sacred fire offerings, these Havans become a profound expression of spiritual commitment, cultural pride and universal oneness.

Samashti Gita Chanting

The Samashti Gita Chanting is a collective, group-based chanting of the Bhagavad Gita—a spiritual text that forms the core of the Chinmaya Mission’s teachings. The event will bring together thousands of participants, across all age groups, to chant the Gita in unison creating a unified spiritual experience, fostering peace, harmony, and spiritual growth.

Chinmaya Amrit

Chinmaya Amrit is a musical and theatrical tribute to Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda — a harmony where music becomes prayer and movement speaks the soul.. Through powerful storytelling and transformative stagecraft, it becomes a collective offering — celebrating a Master who lit a lamp in millions of lives.

National & International Gita Chanting

Kids in all centers will compete in the National & International Gita Chanting competition this year. Click for the guidelines.
